How do I find the picture URL of a new webcam I want to add.
Unfortunately there isn't a way that AloeCam can automatically find the settings it needs when you add a new camera.
AloeCam needs the webcam picture file's URL to be able to download the picture from the Internet.
I've outlined the methods that I use below. Method three works when others don't, but Method one requires the least computer and Internet knowledge.
Method One:
1. View the webcam in your browser.
2. Right click on the webcam picture, select "Properties" from the menu.
3. Find the picture's URL in the properties window. You can use copy and paste to copy the URL to AloeCam.
Method Two:
1. View the webcam in your browser.
2. Select "View|Source" in the browser's main menu.
3. Look for the picture's URL in the HTML source. It likely will be in a "IMG" tag, for example <img src="http://www.site.com/guest/webcam32.jpg" width=320 height=240>
Method Three:
1. View the webcam in your browser.
2. Look at the files in the browser's file cache. For Internet Explorer the directory is "\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\".
3. If the last thing you viewed in your browser was the webcam page and you sort the files in the cache by "Last Accessed", the camera .jpg picture file should be listed near the top in the cache directory.
4. Right click on the picture file and open the "Properties" window.
5. Copy and paste the URL from the "Properties" window to AloeCam.
How long will my subscription to AloeCam last.
You don't subscribe to anything, AloeCam is a computer program that you buy. We don't operate any webcams, just write software used to view webcams. AloeCam is similar to your web browser program but is designed just for watching webcams.
Most webcams do offer a subscription to a "members" cam that updates faster than the free "guest" cam. Check the websites of your favorite cams.
When will Aloecam be updated.
We are writing a new version but don't know when it will be finished.
Is it a copyright violation or stealing or wrong to use AloeCam to watch people's webcams.
Using AloeCam to watch a webcam is definitely not against the law. AloeCam does exactly the same thing a web browser does when it downloads and displays webcam pictures, it uses the HTTP protocol to "GET" a picture file from a web server. All the webcams in AloeCam's list are free to watch, AloeCam does not bypass any website security or passwords.
The drawback for a webcam owner is that when you use AloeCam you don't see the rest of their webpages. Many webcam operators have new content daily at their websites, diaries, contests, photo galleries, message boards, etc. The webcam picture is likely only one of the good things at the site.
Webcam "grabber" programs in general have earned a bit of a bad reputation with webcam operators. Some of the grabber programs will download the picture at whatever rate is set even if the picture hasn't changed. If very many people are downloading a picture file every 5 seconds it slows down the web server and will cost the webcam operator more for web hosting. AloeCam only downloads a picture file once, when it's updated, and will not increase the load on the web server.
We have had many requests from webcam operators for their webcam to be listed in AloeCam, not one request for a webcam to be removed. Many webcam operators use AloeCam to watch other people's webcams.
How do I get my webcam in AloeCam's list.
Email us at aloecam@aldensoft.com with your website's URL, cam picture URL, and cam refresh rate. In general the webcams in AloeCam's list have a refresh rate of 5 minutes or faster.
Please include your website's URL, we will need to see the camera picture displayed on a web page that is available publicly to be certain we are not adding a subscription or private camera.
When my ISP hangs up on me and AloeCam is running, more than one dialer window pops up.
That's a Microsoft bug, there should never be more than one dialer window dialing the same Internet connection :)
There isn't anything AloeCam can do differently to avoid it. AloeCam isn't doing the dialing, it's just trying to get files from the Internet.
If this happens on your computer you should turn off the Windows auto connect feature. In the "Control Panel" "Internet Options" applet on the "Connections" tab, check "Never dial a connection."
If you disable the Windows auto connect feature you might need another program to keep your computer connected when you're away. We just happen to have one, CiDial. It's simple but it's free. Use the menu at the top left of this page to check it out.
I lost my registration code and/or my copy of AloeCam.
Getting another copy of AloeCam is easy, just download it again from this website. If you lost your registration code email us at aloecam@aldensoft.com with your name and/or email address that you used when ordering and we'll send your registration code.
I can't get my registration code to work.
To avoid mistakes try copying and pasting the user name and registration code from the email message to AloeCam. If you type it don't forget the period after any initals in the user name, the registration code must be UPPERCASE letters, and don't mistake any letter O's for zeros.
